Booking choice: The Lady Musgrave Island day cruise, from $225 per person. Check dates Tour details
Two companies run day trips to Lady Musgrave Island. 1770 Reef sails from the Town of 1770 marina, about 90 minutes each way. Lady Musgrave Experience sails from Bundaberg Port Marina, about 2 hours 15 minutes each way, and moors at its own pontoon in the lagoon. Both sell next season already, and both are dearer next season.
All the prices in this post are the operators' own published fares in Australian dollars, with the season they apply to. The tours you can book on this site are covered separately at the end, in the currency GetYourGuide shows.

What is the reef charge, and why does it go up?
The Environmental Management Charge is A$8.50 a person for a full day on the Great Barrier Reef, rising to A$9.00 from 1 April 2027.
The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority sets the charge, and tour operators collect it with your fare. A part day costs A$4.25 now and A$4.50 from April. The Authority indexes it every year to the Brisbane consumer price index and gives 12 months' notice, which is why the 2027 figure is already public.
Lady Musgrave Experience prints its share inside the fare: A$8.50 for the reef charge plus A$2.60 in Queensland Parks fees, A$11.10 a head. Fifty cents is not why the fares rise in April, but it is part of every ticket to the island. Lady Elliot Island's day trips also include the reef charge and a fuel levy.
Is there a cheaper way to see Lady Musgrave?
Yes: 1770 Reef's snorkel-only lagoon trip costs A$250 for an adult, but it does not land on the island.
The snorkel-only fare is a shorter day, about 5 hours, with up to 2 hours in the water. 1770 Reef is clear that it gives "no access to glass bottom boat or the island itself". Children pay A$175 and a family A$750. If the lagoon and the turtles are what you came for, it works.
The other savings are smaller. 1770 Reef has a senior and student fare of A$275 with a valid Australian card. Lady Musgrave Experience takes 15% off when you bundle two of its day tours, for example the reef day and a winter whale-watching trip. We found no official promo code for either operator.
Staying overnight is cheap on paper. A Queensland Parks camping permit has cost A$7.75 a person a night, or A$31 a family, since 1 July 2026. The boat transfer with all your gear is the real cost; the 2027 camping post has the details.
The full day from 1770 with the island walk, the glass-bottom boat and lunch on board.

Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort's day trip from Bundaberg or Hervey Bay, for travel from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027, includes the scenic flight, about 7 hours on the island, a glass-bottom boat or guided snorkel, gear and a short wetsuit, lunch, towels and reef shoes. Children are 3 to 12, and under 3s fly free.
Queensland residents of the listed areas can get a locals-only fare of A$545 and A$395 until 31 March 2027, except from 12 December 2026 to 27 January 2027. Day tours from the Gold Coast and Brisbane (Redcliffe) cost A$1,100 and A$1,200 an adult. For the trade-offs beyond price, read Lady Musgrave or Lady Elliot.
